This is an original circa 1878 photography by L.A. Huffman (b.1854-d.1931) of Spotted Fawn, a Cheyenne Girl of 13 years. The photograph features a young girl of 13 named Spotted Fawn from the Cheyenne Indians dressed in traditional garments and posing regally and is from circa 1878 (source: Montana Memory Project). The catalog listing is featured on the back of the frame. L.A. Huffman wad appointed post photographer at Fort Keogh, a military post established shortly after the Custer incident in 1876 to provide a military presence in eastern Montana, which was an unpaid position that provided a dirt floor log studio and an opportunity to make and sell photographs. He is well renowned for taking photos of the Frontier and Native American life. The condition of this framed photograph is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this original L.A. Huffman photograph are 12 1/2" x 10 7/8" and the visible art measures 5 1/8" x 3 5/8". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery.
