Highly Desirable Early Production 4 Digit Serial Number U.S. Colt - Ainsworth Inspected Single Action Army Revolver. Manufactured in 1873 - 74, first years of production and part of Lot 2, second shipment of SAA Revolvers to the U.S. Government. This U.S. Cavalry Colt Revolvers features Standard blade front and notch rear sights. The top the barrel is marked w/ the early slant letter "+ COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO HARTFORD, CT. U.S.SA.+" w/ the 2 line, 2 patent date marking on inlet side of the frame followed by "U.S." The bottom o the barrel is marked w/ a small "P" and "A" just ahead of the the cylinder pin. There is a "P" on the cylinder and a colt inspector L on the face of the cylinder, an "A" top of the back strap just below the serial number on the trigger guard. There is a "C" marked in the hammer well. The bottom of the frame and trigger guard are numbered 1752 and the bottom of the barrel, the cylinder and back strap are number 1752. The SN 1752 is stamped on the barrel under the ejector rod. This revolver has been together since period of usage! The ejector rod head is the correct early "bulls eye" or donut style with the hole in the center. It is fitted w/ smooth one piece walnut grip w/ cartouche clear and intact on left side. NRA - Good to Fine condition. Metal surfaces have a smooth grayish brown patina showing 20 to 30% of original bluing. There are virtually no dings and only ever so slight minor pitting. The grip is excellent w/ no chipping on the toes, cartouche clear and intact on left side. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is fine to excellent. Bore is dark, rifling strong.
