C. 1870-1890 Eastlake Marble Top Parlor Side Table
Featured in this lot is a late Victorian era, Eastlake-style Beveled Marble Top, Parlor Accent Side Table over a walnut base central turned column raised on stylized cabriole legs, circa 1870s-1890s. In contrast with other Victorian styles of furniture produced in America featuring classical motifs, Eastlake furniture is more geometric and incorporates more modest curves with a nod toward modernism. The style sometimes includes mild Renaissance Revival and medieval influences that do not overwhelm the designs. Charles Eastlake introduced the design principles of this movement pulling direct inspiration from the Arts & Crafts movement. The Eastlake style is a direct transition between traditional Victorian furniture and the modern furniture movement that came decades later. This parlor table captures the design simplicity of the era. In overall good condition, appears to have had some repairs, top is loose as are the dowel joint connected legs. Marble exhibits some staining. Top measures 17.5"L x 13.5"W, and the table height is 28.5".*
