The lot features a circa 1870-1880 coup stick / quirt from the Plains Native American Indians and from the ex-collection of the Denver Art Museum and Harrison Brockbane. The piece consist of a carved wood branch body which is wrapped in Buffalo parfleche rawhide which is sinew sewn and is further accented by later Indian hide wraps of fringe with sinew and thread sewing and at the front a drop of horse hair for the wip front. The front area has a notched finish with hand painted on museum collection numbers of 1926.21 and F-I-P. There are two original tags, one marked "Unknown Maker 1926.21 Club" on both sides and the other "x Harrison Brockbane x DAM (Denver Art Museum) 5/7/2017 / 124921 / 315/2" on one side and "Lot LH 704/2 Sale 509". Overall an unusual piece. Measures 14 5/8"L without the drop, the hair drop is approximately an additional 20"L.
