For your consideration is this Stag Horn Handle Bowie Fighting knife, by English maker, W. Saynor (Sheffield) LTD, circa mid to late 1800s, double stamped hallmark SAYNOR on the ricasso. Originally designed and created by Rezin Bowie in 1830 for his brother James (Jim), the Bowie knife has a storied history. There are many versions of who the creator was. James Black created this pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife. Jim Bowie became famous for his use of a similar patterned large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight. From Sheffield, England, the Saynor family had been active in the cutlery business starting no later than the 1740s. This bowie knife features a 1.75" wide steel blade, a brass guard quillon, full tang, 4" long six-pin stag horn handle, 10" long clip point blade. 14.5" total length. The condition of this knife is very nice showing a heavy sturdy blade construction, weight 1lb.*
