The lot features a unique and uncommonly seen original Plains Indian pipe tamper dating to circa 1850-1875 from the Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection. The piece shows a carved wood tamp which shows the dark soot end and smooth carved finish. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and acquired by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Has the original tag which is marked, "PLAINS PIPE TAMPER 3rd Quarter 19th Century $350 BV0209 SUNDOG FINE ART". Measures overall 6 5/8"L.
