C. 1820s Amber Glass Flask Clinton and Lafayette Significant C. 1820s Amber Glass Flask With DeWitt
Significant C. 1820s Amber Glass Flask With DeWitt Clinton and Lafayette. Probably celebrating Lafayette's momentous 1824 national tour of America; however we find the presence of DeWitt Clinton much more interesting! Clinton was the Federalist candidate for president against Madison in 1812. He later served as governor of New York, and is considered the father of the Erie Canal project; he dedicated the completed canal in 1825, three years before his death. For political collectors, early Clinton display items are few and far between; some historical Staffordshire China which mentions him in connection with the canal, and a papier-mache portrait snuff box, of which we know but a single example. This large, handblown flask is in choice condition. Height 7.25", diameter 3.875".
