On sale is a very rare "Byzantine Pilgrim Flask" circa 400A.D. to 600 A.D. Featured is a very rare glass mold, "Lentoid" style vessel. It has a very thick-fired outer rim, depressed center and narrow neck. These containers held libations, unguents, perfumes and scented oils. Vessels of this type were carried over long distances from various areas of the Mediterranean region. Early pilgrims to the Holy land mostly used these flasks as toiletries for personal hygiene. Iridescence on this glass piece covers the entire radiant color spectrum and it has a slightly encrusted earthen patina! This late Roman glass specimen is in excellent condition.
