Inscription of Constantine Monomachus in six lines across field. DOC 8a; Sear 1835. Nearly Extremely Fine and rare, with gray tone, small striking crack and minor edge damage.

The Virgin Blachernitissa was considered to be the special protector of the city of Constantinople and of the Empire in general. The icon was housed in the Church of St. Mary of Blachernae close to the imperial palace of that name.
