Byzantine Empire. Constantine IV with Heraclius and Tiberius, 668-685. Gold Solidus (4.31g), irregular mint (Palmyrene). imitation?) 674-81. Helmeted and cuir. bust facing, holding spear and shield. Rev. Cross on three steps flanked by Heraclius and Tiberius. Crudely engraved.

Reportedly found near the desert city of Palmyra which had surrendered to the Moslems in 637. Extremely Fine, very rare and interesting, the edge extensively smoothed, the obverse and reverse fields both exhibiting concavity.
