Byzantine Empire. Andronicus II and III, 1325-1334. Gold Hyperpyron Nomisma (3.02g), Constantinople. Half-length figure of the Virgin facing, nimbate and with her hands uplifted (orans), all within circuit of the city walls of Constantinople showing four groups of triple towers, sigla K - X each surmounted by triangle of dots in field. Rev. Christ, wearing nimbus cr., stg. facing between kneeling figures of the two Andronici, both bearded, each wearing loros and resting one hand on chest, Christ crowns the two emperors.
