NOTE- In the year 1694 alone, 100,000 horses were stolen from the Spanish settlements in the southwest. Next the Indians made horse raids on his Indian enemies. This was a game and a great status symbol, a sign of great bravery – to steal a war horse or buffalo horse from the enemy, especially if the enemy was not killed in the stealing.
