Condition details: This piece is in very good condition. With the unaided eye, there are no issues. Closer inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no issues and no signs of restoration. The work is mounted under glass and has not been inspected out of the frame. The piece is framed in a brown frame with a cream linen liner, gold fillet, and a cream matting. The matting is signed; ‘Kit Carson and Captain Young – Sierras, 1830’ From the Sketch Book of Byron B. Wolfe. The frame is in very good condition with normal wear. The artist’s bio is provided on the back. Verso on the back of the piece: KIT CARSON AND CAPTIAN YOUNG – SIERRAS 1830. TIME-1830. PLACE -SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS – CALIFORNIA. NOTE – Kit Carson and captain Young on a fur trapping venture into the California area. This was a very successful trip. The fur later sold for $24,000. Kit at this time was only 21. Basil Lajeunesse was Kits trapping partner. The experience later helped Kit Carson form his own group who became known as the Famous Carson Men of the fur trade. REF.
