Byrd Antarctic Expedition Reports Correspondence
Byrd Antarctic Expedition Plans and Clippings from the Collection of Chief Engineer Thomas B. Mulroy. The 1928-1930 trip to the Antarctic had a number of objectives. Richard E. Byrd's main goal, as the leading aeronautic explorer of his day, was to fly over the South Pole, which he accomplished on November 29, 1929. There were many other scientific missions of a meteorological and geological nature. This lot contains two very interesting reports in this area: "BYRD ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION Little America Antarctica Season of 1929-30 September 15th GEOLOGICAL PARTY Report on Preparations and Plans" and "A Brief METEOROLOGICAL SUMMARY, Little America, Antarctica 1929." Also included is a large group of Mulroy's personal correspondence from just after their return to the United States as well as a group of clippings, articles, and magazines, all relating to Polar exploration.
