Bye Lo Babies were first made in 1924 and became the all time most popular baby doll ever. They are still the most collected of the antique babies. The first ones were made with a bisque head and they are the most easily found today. Then next they were made with a composition head like this one. Naturally the composition ones did not hold up as well, as most composition dolls don't. So it is much harder to find them and especially to find one with good composition. This one is 17" tall and has composition hands as well. Both the head and hands are in very good condition with just one scuff on her right chin and a small craze crack starting behind the left ear. There are a few light lines here and there but actually she has amazingly nice composition for being over 80 years old. She has no repaint or repairs. Her sleep blue eyes sometimes don't close. The pink lip color is all there. It is marked on the back of the neck Grace Storey Putnam. The muslin body is the original wide body type with the frog style legs that are the original kind. It has some speckling on it but no stains or odors. The dress is not original but it is of the proper era and is beautifully adorned with three embroidered medallions across the lower front of the skirt with scalloped lace across the bottom. There is also an embroidered inset across the top of the bodice. There is a matching slip underneath with a diaper that has been added later. The dress and slip have no damage. On her legs are wool long booties ...
