Abdul Ahad Momand was the first Afghan cosmonaut in space

Soyuz TM-6 was a Soviet mission, which was launched on 29.08.1988 from the Baikonur cosmodrome to the space station MIR. The crew was built of the first Afghan cosmonaut Abdul Ahad Momand, the commander of the space flight Vladimir Lyakhov and the flight engineer Valeri Polyakov. Momand spent several days at the space station MIR. His inclusion in the mission was a significant symbol during the Soviet war in Afghanistan.
