Buzz Aldrin's Copy of Tranquility Ball Speech
Buzz Aldrin's Personal Copy of His Speech to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Eight pages, 8.5" x 11", speech pages housed in a yellow braded report folder. Titled "Tranquility Ball and dated "Nov 7, 1969", both in Aldrin's hand. Two small holographic notations. Buzz Aldrin is himself a 32nd degree Mason, and delivered this speech at the dedication of a new addition to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center less than four months after returning from the moon. He discusses in detail "some of the medical benefits growing out of the space program for people right here on Earth", such as improved vital sign monitoring systems, a better, more comfortable breathing apparatus for "clinical diagnosis of oxygen consumption during exercise" and a new vehicle to help disabled children become mobile. Aldrin describes it as "a walking vehicle that replaces a wheelchair...with eight legs, so designed that four of them are on the ground at all times." He sums up his main point near the end of the speech when he says that "...space research is generating new knowledge in more different areas than any other kind of research I can think of..." In very fine condition. This speech is an informative and interesting account of the kind of positive technology space exploration results in, delivered by an astronaut who knows first-hand. From the personal collection of Dr. Buzz Aldrin and accompanied by a signed Letter of Authenticity from him.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
