Buzz Aldrin: Handwritten Paper on Human Flight
Buzz Aldrin: Handwritten Student Research Paper on Human Flight from His Second Semester at West Point "Cadet Edwin E. Aldrin Jr.". Thirty-two pages, 8.5" x 11", college-ruled notebook paper, United States Military Academy at West Point, April 7, 1948, pencil. All pages entirely in Aldrin's hand, with additional edit marks written by his instructor. Most of the pages include "Aldrin, E E" at the header of the page, and the paper is signed in full "Cadet Edwin E. Aldrin Jr." at the conclusion of the text. The lion's share of this research paper is the 26 pages (13 front and back) of detailed text, preceded by a title page & table of contents and followed by a bibliography. Titled "Behind the Fight to Fly", Aldrin's paper discusses "man's desire to fly" and the history behind what he calls "powered flight". He then goes on to discuss early aviation up to and including the Wright Brothers. The ultimate irony here is, of course, that Aldrin not only graduated West Point to a career in the Air Force, but took the ultimate "powered flight" all the way to the moon, where he was the second man to walk upon its surface. This research paper has a few scattered creases and mild edge wear to some pages, else very fine condition. This is a truly unique opportunity to obtain a detailed and very prescient example of Buzz Aldrin's student work at West Point.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
