<B>Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Space Flown Book by Robert Goddard.</B></I> The small leather bound book, <I>The Autobiography of Robert Hutchings Goddard: Father of the Space Age, Early Years to 1927</B></I> (Worchester, Massachusetts: Achille J. St. Onge, 1966), is 2" x 3" and has 85 gilt-edged pages. The book is inscribed in pencil, "<I>Flown on Apollo 11 July 16-24-'69 E.E. Aldrin Jr. (signed) Buzz Aldrin.</B></I> The book was published to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Goddard's first liquid propellant rocket. There were 1926 copies printed, of which this is number 659. The book was carried on Apollo 11 by Buzz Aldrin as a favor to his father and as a token of respect for Goddard, the "Father of Modern Rocketry." <BR><BR> The elder Aldrin, known as Gene, attended Clark University, graduating in 1915. There, he studied under Robert Goddard, who encouraged Aldrin's interest in aviation. The professor and his former student stayed close. When Goddard's research funding was cut off by the Smithsonian Institution in 1929, Aldrin, enlisting the aid of his friend, Charles Lindbergh, arranged a meeting between Goddard and representatives of the Guggenheim Foundation. The foundation supplied funds for Goddard to continue his research. Even after Robert Goddard's death in 1945, Gene Aldrin continued to correspond with Goddard's widow. <BR><BR>The book is sold with a large archive of letters, notes, and newspaper articles relating to Robert Goddard, compiled by Edwin E.
