This lot features a collection of two antique Montana souvenir medals. The first medal is to celebrate the return of the first Montana volunteer infantry form the Philippine Islands in 1899. The unit was mustered in Helena, Montana on May 5-10, 1898, leaving the U.S. for service in the Philippines on July 18, 1898, and arriving in Manila, Philippine Islands on August 24, 1898. They saw action in the Philippine-American War. The second Souvenir is celebrates the dedication of the Montana capitol in Helena, Montana in 1902. The capital building itself was constructed between 1896 and 1902 with wing-annexes added between 1909 and 1912. This medal celebrates its completion in 1902. The medals mark some of the biggest events in Montana's state history and are truly Museum quality pieces. The condition of the collection of two is good for its age. Measures: 2 1/2" H x 1 1/2" W
