This item is a Butte, Montana Miner Hi-Graders candlestick holder with fancy thimble and original candle. The holder was used for gold mining in Montana during the 19th Century. Provenance: From a large early Montana private collection in Missoula, Montana and was recovered in the Butte, Montana area. The miners candles stick is given the "HiGraders (Hi-Graders)" name as the holder has a hollow in the inside of the handle where miners would steel the "HI-Grade" gold while mining. Once the early miners would find the "HI-Grade" gold they would wrap it in wax and press it into the hollow area, unnoticeable to their superiors. The very rare piece measures with the candle 10.25"L x 6"H x 2 3/8"W.
