Two TLSs from Busby Berkeley, both one page, 8.5 x 11, addressed to Bonita K. Nelson of the American Play Company on September 5th and 25th, 1962. The earlier letter begins with Berkeley mentioning three early theatre productions of The Little Spitfire, The Alarm Clock, and A Girl from Childs, and then continues: “Having directed many big and important pictures for both Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer thru the years…I am continually on look-out for good stories with a Motion Picture potential…I remembered these three plays particularly. They were great properties then—there is a possibility they could still be great to-day. Brought up to date, they might be the nucellus of a swell Motion Picture.” The second letter finds Berkeley retracting his initial hope to modernize the three plays for a potential film: “I am sorry to say that though the comedy and situations were funny then, I now realize that they hardly come up to the standards of film fare we are faced with to-day. Times do change, we both know that, but I was hoping that even with passing years they would still retain some possibility for, or nucleus of, a picture potential to-day.” In overall very good to fine condition, with some light creasing.
