Stephen Burroughs (1765-1840) was an Amercan rogue, joining the army at the age of 14, deserting shortly afterwards and entering Dartmouth. He left school and went to sea as a privateer, then posed as the ship's physician. When back on land he assumed duties of a Congregational minister in Pelham, Mass, and then was arrested for counterfeiting. He escaped the Northampton Jail by burning it down ... and so on. ***Stephen Burroughs' Sermon, Delivered in Rutland on a Hay Mow (1800) no imprint. 12mo, 8pp, no boards, in fair condition, protected in a mylar cover.
