Burnside model 1864, .52 caliber Civil War carbine, blue and case hardened finish, serial #18831. The carbine remains in very good plus to near fine condition showing 75-85% original blue on barrel. Some minor erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The frame and lock show 50-70% case hardening that is just starting to tone, drift to silver, with good strong rainbow colors, lightening slightly with beginning age. The bottom lever latch show 75-85% bright original blue, the left side of the buttstock show two good clear cartouches. The stocks are also very good plus to near fine with just a few minor bumps and scratches, normal storage. The rear of the comb near the buttplate are stamped ā€œNā€, the buttplate shows 75% toning case hardening. The tang shows traces of original blue. The original small parts, springs, and sights are retained. Matching numbers. Tight action. Excellent bore. A strong 8.5 – 9 on a 1-10 scale. From the Bernard Braverman Collection.
