Burns, Jack F. MEDIA OF EXCHANGE USED IN STATE AND FEDERAL PENITENTIARIES (SIGNED). Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh. 1960. 12mo. 341-378 pages. Original printed card covers. Signed by the author. b&w illustrations. ex Richard Yeager Library. Fine. This book is a reprint from the Journal, Annals of Carnegie Museum, December 1960. To date, no numismatic information has been located which deals primarily with the media of exchange now or formerly used within the various state and federal penitentiaries of the United States. There has been a good deal of numismatic literature prepared on the prisoner-of-war tokens both of the continent of Europe and the British Empire, but apparently nothing has been written about similar media of exchange used in the penitentiaries in the United States except for a few brief notes on the Sing Sing Prison tokens and the tokens of the Nevada State Penitentiary. For this reason a research project was undertaken for the study of these media of exchange. This monograph presents the information learned as a result of this project. Lot weight: 0 lbs 4oz. Subject(s): United States Tokens.
