This Burleigh Ware colorful pottery parrot pitcher was manufactured by Burgess & Leigh Ltd. at the Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The earthenware vessel features a bulbous body that tapers to a flared rim with a pinched spout. The primary decorative feature is a figural handle modeled in the shape of a parrot or macaw perched on a branch. The pitcher is finished with a hand-painted design over a bright yellow ground, while the interior and foot are coated in a contrasting lime green glaze. The bird is vibrantly colored in shades of green, blue, orange, and yellow with black detailing. Additional hand-painted tropical foliate elements in orange, blue, and green adorn the body near the base of the handle and spout. The base displays a green underglaze printed mark featuring the word BURLEIGH, WARE, and ESTD 1851 above a central beehive graphic. A banner at the bottom contains B. & L. LTD. with ENGLAND underneath.
