Called "Maitum Heads" in honor of the first cave location where they were found 30 or so years ago, these amazing visages sparked worldwide interest with their reporting. Now "old news", several seem to appear each year and I have bought almost every one in the Philippines that I have seen. Yes, most are incomplete - due to their fragility and the circumstances of their use and finding - but they still seem to mesmerize.....and I like them for that. This is an especially fine one, with abundant hair holes, recessed eyes, full ears, and a partially open mouth revealing 6 neatly arranged teeth. I have left it alone "as purchased", with tape strengthening the broken neck, though a buyer should be able to mount it with support inside the head (which is generally strong....and no crack extends inside). A perfect Maitum Head Jar Cover is extremely rare and worth well over $2500. - if you can find one. With the important part - the head - intact here, this starting price is very fair and reasonable. Over 7" tall and 5-1/2" front-to-back, it will satisfy for a lifetime.
