Buffalo, KY - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 633 The First NB Ch. # 11538
Of the many trophy notes the Gale holdings contain, few can be more desirable than this prize, which comes from the only bank in this Larue County hamlet. Just 667 sheets of large notes were issued, and by 1935 the amount outstanding from here had already dropped to a meager $300. Three large examples have survived, one an absolute pig, one a decent Fine-Very Fine, and the Gale example, grading a sharp Very Fine-Extremely Fine, and boasting brilliantly colored blue signatures of Walter L. Ferrill and E.S. Ferrill. The Martin example realized $5175, and, in a market that values rarity, condition and desirability to an even greater degree than it did four years ago, it's a good bet this monster note will fare even better this evening.
