This lot features a set of August Buermann bronze horse head spurs with A.B. star mark circa 1880-1914. August Buermann was born in Germany in 1842 but later travelled to the US after taking his apprenticeship in lock smithing. After joining the army as a substitute at the age of 22 he began making spurs for the civilian and military. Buermann fashioned the now infamous star brand that adorn his designs and creations. This style of spur is marked stamped with the star brand behind the strap lug. Hand made custom spurs designed by Buermann was also stamped with the letters AB inside the yoke band. By the early 1900s, the majority of military men were wearing Augusts heel spurs and army officers were also entitled to wear heel chains and were all privately purchased from Buermann. In 1926 the Buermann name and design was purchased by North & Judd, a large established hardware company. The infamous star brand of the Buermann boot spur was joined by the North & Judd anchor mark. However, these spurs have no anchor mark, most likely meaning they where made prior to the company merger. These rare spurs are in good condition for there age. Measures: 4 1/2" W x 7" L x 3" H
