Buddy L Flivver Pressed Steel Dump Truck c. 1926-
This is an exceedingly rare Buddy L Flivver Dump Truck showing a pressed steel construction. The early American toy was manufactured circa 1926-1930 and shows a black painted body with metal colored red spoked wheels. Buddy L was founded by Fred A. Lundahl in 1910 as Moline Pressed Steel Company. They made parts fo McCormick-Deering and International Harvester Company. Buddy L Moline Pressed steel began making pressed steel toys in circa 1921 with the story being that founder Fred A. Lundahl wanted to make something new, different, and durable for his son Arthur. He then designed and produced a reportedly model of an International Harvester from 18 and 20 guage steel from the company's scrap pile. This propelled Mr. Lundahl to start the Buddy L "Toys for Boys" pressed steel pieces. The Flivver series was Lundahl's design of the iconic Ford Model T available in a one ton pickup long/short box, huckster wagon, one-ton express, dump cart with tall box and dump cart with short box, all of which are exceedingly scarce. This piece shows a good condition for its early age and is accompanied by a Lionel Corp Coal burlap bag. The truck measures 12"L overall. Some Buddly L Flivver Trucks have sold at auction in excess of $18,000.
