<B>Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper "Dead in Crash" Hand-Lettered Poster (1959).</B></I> February 3, 1959 -- the "Day the Music Died" -- was marked by this somber, hastily prepared poster, alerting Rock and Roll fans to tune in to radio station WEBR (in Buffalo, New York) for details. The performers had just given their last show in Clear Lake, Iowa, and had booked a private plane to their next destination, Fargo, North Dakota. Minutes after take-off, the plane had crashed, killing the pilot and all three stars.
