Buddy Holly Crash NP
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
''Mason City Globe Gazette'' newspaper dated 3 February 1959, detailing the tragic plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa that killed famed rockers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Amazingly preserved newspaper from the very day of the crash has the simple headline ''Four Killed in Clear Lake Plane Crash'' with lead of story reading, ''Four persons, three identified as nationally famous rock' n' roll singers, died early Tuesday in a plane crash five miles north of Clear Lake…'' Certainly an understatement, as Holly's brief year-long career as rock musician would profoundly influence the course of rock 'n roll, with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton citing his influence. He has been described as ''the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll.'' Newspaper measures 15'' x 21.5'' unfolded and 15'' x 11'' folded with significant toning, chips and wear. Good condition.
