<B>Buddy Ebsen's Nebulizer, Used by Him for 14 Years Following Near-Fatal Reaction to Tin Man Make-Up.</B></I> Originally cast in the role of the Scarecrow in the 1939 classic <I>The Wizard of Oz,</B></I> Ebsen swapped roles with Ray Bolger, who had been selected to play the Tin Man. It would prove to be a fateful arrangement when he was rushed to the hospital nine days after filming began when his lungs seized after a week of inhaling aluminum dust from the "tin" make-up. Ebsen spent two weeks in the hospital recovering, and Jack Haley replaced him in the film (and a paste replaced the dust in the make-up). For the remainder of his life Ebsen complained of lung issues due to his involvement in the movie (ironically, he outlived most of the cast), and for 14 years he used this DeVilbiss nebulizer for breathing treatments.
