Buddy Ebsen's Handwritten Parkay Ad
Buddy Ebsen's Handwritten Parkay Ad. A very interesting two-page letter Ebsen wrote in black ink in his own hand, expressing his reluctance to endorse products ("...I feel a responsibility to the people who have accepted me as a performer. I feel that they are my friends. I could never give them a bum steer -- for money..."). He goes on to mention that he refused to continue commercials for a major cigarette company (named in the letter) after the discovery of the link of cigarettes to lung cancer. He concludes, "We have used Kraft products in our home... We like them. We like Parkay margarine. I think I can sell it. I hope you'll let me try." This was either a request that Parkay hire him as a spokesman or Buddy's idea of a script for such a commercial. Buddy has written his name in full at the beginning of the letter ("Hi, I'm Buddy Ebsen..."). Also included is a letter from Kraft Foods' Senior VP of Marketing to Ebsen, dated September 20, 1972, discussing the campaign. Some minor tearing at the top of the first page, not touching the letter. Very Good condition. From the Buddy Ebsen Estate.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
