Buddy Ebsen's Baseball Shoes, Bought by Eddie Cantor to Play on the Whoopee! Baseball Team, 1928. A pair of Buddy Ebsen's old baseball shoes from the "Roaring '20s" era, complete with cleats. The back story: On December 4, 1928, Buddy Ebsen made his Broadway debut in the Ziegfeld musical Whoopee!, which starred Eddie Cantor. The show was a big hit and in the spring of 1929, Cantor formed a Whoopee! baseball team, in which the company would play the companies of other Broadway shows in Central Park. Cantor recruited Buddy for his team and bought him this pair of shoes. The shoes have the socks tucked inside them and one of the shoes has a cloth on which Buddy has written in black pen, "Buddy Ebsen -- Baseball shoes bought for me by Eddie Cantor to play on Whoopee team in Central Park 1928." (He was off by a year.) The shoes come in a cloth bag with the same identification penned on it (but no signature). There are also two 8" x 10" pictures of Buddy playing baseball, one a framed shot taken when he was playing summer stock in Maine circa 1940, with an amusing story written by Buddy on the back of the frame regarding the summer stock team vs. a team of college kids and locals, and its result; and also a letter from a student who'd played on the opposing team that summer. An almost-80-year-old show business and sports curio in Fine condition with wear to the shoes from age and use. From the Buddy Ebsen Estate.

Shipping: Clothing, Costumes & Jerseys (view shipping information)
