This Buddha figure from Mrauk U in Myanmar (Burma), dates back to the 18th century and is made of stone. Buddha is depicted in the upright samabhanga and is located on a rectangular base, which is decorated with engraved lotus. With both hands he holds a filled bowl, lifted in front of the belly. A long, simple garment, which reaches to the ground, covers the body of the enlightened. His lips form a smile whereby a warm expression arises in the face. Buddha has a broad nose and big eyes that are accented by fine eyebrows. His head is adorned with round curls and a spherical usnisha crowns them. The figure is mounted on a modern, square wooden base.

The Buddha is optically in good, yet largely restored condition. The neck shows a glued crack and on the back a few fissures are visible. The usnisha shows also a restored crack as well as some material loss. The figure has a height of 30 cm and a width of 10.5 cm. The total height is 39 cm. (lvp)
