This standing Buddha figure of the 20th century consists of wood with lacquer and was made in the area around the city of Vientiane in Laos. Buddha is located in an upright samabhana stand on a circular plinth, which is mounted on a square base (latter day). His hands are raised in front of the chest and show the abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and granting protection. The slender body of the enlightened is wrapped in a simple monks robe. Deep neck wrinkles and long earlobes testify his grandeur, which is also enhanced by his meditative expression and the concise facial features. His black accented head is crowned by a pronounced ketumala.



The wooden Buddha figure shows some signs of wear. All-round restored breakages, a central drying crack and loss of material can be seen. The height of the figure measures 109.5 cm and the width 20.5 cm. The height with base is 118.5 cm. (lvp)
