Large Buddha figure appears to have great age

This large, wooden Buddha was made in the 18th / 19th century Thailand. The enlightened stands in the upright samabhanga and has an elegant, slender waisted silhouette. He wears a long robe with fine decoration around the waist. The bear chested torso exhibits smooth contours. Buddha has a peaceful, serene expression, long earlobes and deep neck folds. His head is crowned by a ketumala. The figure is highly decorative with a graceful aesthetic due to the traces of lacquered pigment. Buddha is mounted on a modern pedestal.



The Buddha figure shows significant signs of wear consistent with age. Loss of material, weathering and drying cracks are visible. The overall height measures 166 cm.
