This wooden Buddha figure was made in the classic Mandalay style of gold and lacquer painting and date back to Burma the 19th century. Buddha is depicted inpadmasana, wherein both feet are turned upwards. His hands are forming the gesture of touching the earth, also known asbhûmisparsa mudra. In this pose, his opened left hand is resting on his lap and his right hand points to the earth with outstretched fingers. Buddha used this gesture to call the earth to witness the truth of his words. The enlightened is dressed a pleated robe. The hems are accentuated with glass and mirror stones and the garment covers the body right up to his right shoulder. Buddha has a contemplative peaceful facial countenance. The head shows a semi-circular ushnisha, ornate with further glass and mirror stones.



The Buddha is good condition with signs of age and wear. Some stones are missing, color and gold abrasion, nicks and drying cracks are visible. The figure has a height of 35 cm and a width of 29 cm. (lvp)
