This impressive wood sculpture with lacquer represents the peaceful face of Buddha. The full mouth of the enlightened forms a slight smile and the nose as well as the corrugated brows frame the half-closed eyes in the midst. By merging the individual parts of the face a gentle expression is created. The long earlobes indicate Buddha's grandeur and the distinct, black accented curls round the face. The sculpture comes on a modern base.



The face of Buddha shows signs of age and wear. Loss of material at the top, traces of weathering and dryness cracks are visible. The height without base measures 67 cm and the width 42.5 cm. With base, the sculpture has a height of 83 cm. (lvp)
