Bruce Selyem Montana Grain Elevator Photograph
This piece is not only Montana art but also Montana history. For your bidding pleasure in this lot is an original Bruce Selyem black and white photograph of Three grain elevators in Rapelje, Montana. Bruce Selyem has been photographing the simple elegance of grain elevators in rural landscapes for over fifteen years. Grain elevators remain treasured landmarks in many Western communities. Old wood grain elevators have been monumental structures on the prairie landscape since the mid 19th century. Now as they are replaced with more modern facilities, they are icons of a vanishing way of life. Though built for function, their familiar architecture is beautiful as it reflects the sun on its path from horizon to horizon. No one has been better at capturing their beauty and preserving their history than Bruce Selyem. He has about 80,000 images from nearly 5,800 places in 40 states and provinces! He graduated from Montana State University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in photography and now is recognized as a leader in preserving the pictorial history of country grain elevators.
