Book signed and inscribed “To Taky, Gratefully, Bruce Lee'' atop Lee's Chinese signature, on the front pictorial flyleaf. In this “The New Dictionary of Thoughts – A Cyclopedia of Quotations,'' Bruce Lee has underlined in ink and pencil over 175 quotations on over 60 pages in over 40 subjects including Ability, Action, Anger, Anticipation, Appearances, Behavior, Character, Confidence, Courage, Life, Love, Moderation, Modesty, Silence, and Valor. Those quoted include Balzac, Carlyle, Cicero, Dryden, Emerson, Longfellow, Plutarch, and Shakespeare. Above a “Marriage” quote, Bruce Lee has summarized its meaning in one word: “Moderation.'' Book published by the Standard Book Company: New York: 1957. Taky Kimura, to whom Lee inscribed this book, was 36 when he first met 18-year-old Bruce Lee in 1959 and would eventually became head instructor at Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute in Seattle. Kimura was also best man at Linda and Bruce Lee’s wedding in 1964 and one of the pallbearers at Bruce Lee’s funeral nine years later. 794 page book measures 6” x 9.25”. Fine condition.
