Browning Superposed Lightning Over/Under Shotgun, Grade I, from the Estate of Major General George S. Patton, IV, #18481 S4, 12 ga., 2-3/4'' chs., choked Full/Mod., blue finish, 28'' barrels with 1/4'' ventilated rib, single gold-plated trigger with combination manual top tang safety and barrel selector; round knob stock and standard forearm are straight grain walnut with a gloss finish. Length of pull is 14-1/4'' over the original black plastic Browning buttplate, weight is 7-1/2 lbs. Exterior condition is fair as reblued with an overall layer of fine pitting and erosion under refinish, with several small dents and ripples in lower barrel ahead of forearm. The name ''PATTON'' is loosely punchdot engraved on forearm latch, along with ''G S P'' across the floorplate and barrel lugs. Stock and forearm have areas fading from exposure with dents and scratches on most surfaces and losses of checkering diamonds; varnish has scattered chipping and peeling notably along high edges. Action remains good with bright bores and strong ejectors. Accompanying the gun are copies of papers from the late General's wife, Joanne Holbrook Patton, which discuss the disposition of this and other property from his estate. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (C&R)
