What a gorgeous specimen of antique brown transfer ware.

This sublime platter is generally an oval shape with scalloped edges. The border features a floral vine scene. The center is open white.

This piece measures about 15.75" wide, 12.25 inches deep and 1.5" tall. The center space is about 11" wide by 8" deep - plenty of room to accommodate a roast!

This platter is made my J.H. Weatherby and Sons which was founded in Tunstall, England in 1891 and moved to Hanley the following year.
It first made domestic items such as basins and ewers, later they added table items. Its major competitiors included Grindley, Johnson Brothers, Adams, Meakin etc.

This platter is in excellent condition for its age. There are no chips, cracks, breaks or crazing. There was one flea bite on the rim, but now I cannot find it...that tells you how small it is. The center has one small dot which looks like a glaze discoloration smaller than a pencil eraser. Please see photos.
