Brown Bess style, English flintlock musket by Hadley, .79 caliber smoothbore, 41-1/4” barrel, 57” overall. Stocked similar to Brown Bess with bulbous forend, military styling similar to Brown Bess with early raised and semi-serpentine sideplate, shows bows and arrows engraved on rear of lockplate. The gun is in its original flintlock configuration and shows a light grey to brown patina finish with some scattered light to moderate pitting with some heavier pitting at the breech and rear of barrel. The rear of the gun shows the initials “CP” crudely cut in, the brass mounts show a deep matching patina. An original to the period English style bayonet for this musket is included, which measures 17” with a 13-1/2” blade. An old brass-tipped wood ramrod is included which is slightly later. The stock is good with small losses, many dings, mars, scratches, etc. A very interesting English musket. The forend shows no cap and the wood possibly set back slightly during period of use. Hadley was a well-recognized and high quality London maker. We would date this arm 1750-1770’s and possibly made for Hudson Bay or other American destinations. From the John Castelli estate. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
