Brown .58 caliber centerfire conversion Enfield musket marked "Brown Manufacturing Company, Newbury, Port, Mass. Patented October 5th, 1871" on bolt and showing Birminham small arms cartouche on stock, Refer Flayerman: 9B-041. Brown wasknown for the manufacture of the Southerner Derringer and was the successor to the Merrimack Arms Co. Little is known of these rifles except they were probably made on the 1871 Merril patent, and an article in the 1872 Newbury portpaper reported that Brown converted 2,000 Enfield muskets to this system. The condition is good with brown patina finish. Good markings, very good cartouched wood stock, standard English 3-band configuration with 35" barrel. Cleaning rodincluded.
