Broward County, Florida Voting Machine from 2000
Broward County, Florida Voting Machine from the 2000 Election. Standing just over 5’ tall, this little machine was part of a large controversy during the hotly contested 2000 Florida presidential election. The election came down to whomever won the state of Florida, where the vote count was so close, they counted it twice. And then came the complaints about those hanging chads. Voting machines such as this one were at the center of the controversy over election tallies, as it still used the punch card system, an outmoded method of casting ballots in an increasingly digital age. Here is your chance to own a piece of the controversial 2000 election. The voting machine comprises a simple device whereby a punch card is inserted into a slot, and the voter punches a hole in the number of their choice, which corresponds to a card at left, where the election choices are printed. The original card is still intact, listing 10 pairs of candidates for the presidency and vice-presidency. The top two are, of course, George Bush & Dick Cheney and Al Gore & Joseph Lieberman. The original attached pin device used to punch holes through the ballot is still intact, as well. Also included with the voting machine is the original power cord for lighting the booth, two rolls of demonstration ballots, one un-punched official ballot, and a bag of chads. The removable legs allow the portable voting booth to break down to the size of a briefcase, with each leg folding in half, allowing them to be stored inside the briefcase, as well. This is a true piece of electoral history, a desirable display piece for George W. Bush supporters or any fan of electoral politics.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Larg (view shipping information)
