Constantius I, sometimes called Constantius Chlorus, was the father of Constantine the Great, and lived from 250 to 306 A.D. In 293 A.D., Diocletian established what is known as the Tetrarchy - a group of four who shared power. Comprising the Tetrarchy were two Augusti (one in the east and one in the west), supported by two Caesars (again, east and west). After Constantius I successfully served as military commander under emperor Maximian, Diocletian promoted both into the Tetrarachy. He died of illness in 306 A.D. ?
