Bronze Titled "Wounded to the Rear, One More Shot" by John Rogers

This was his most popular work on the American Civil War, challenged only by one of his other works "Council of War" (patented 1868). Most of Roger's (Am: 1829-1904) statues were plaster cast with this example cast in bronze. This sculpture patented in 1865 depicts two courageous wounded veterans with one lingering to have one more shot at the enemy before retreating to the hospital. Roger's gifted statuary on this stirring subject to veterans who admired the subject and the impressive manner of its presentation. General George A. Custer and his wife reportedly carried a statue similar to this with them from army post to army post along with other Rogers statuary. Signed "JOHN ROGERS/NEW-YORK". Measures approximately 23 1/2 inches in height and weighs 43 Pounds.
