An ancient 19th century bronze mask from Tibet featuring the protector Mahakala. The mask is rare because the protector is often represented with his usual crown of skulls on his head, which this mask does not feature. Mahakala in Vajrayana Buddhism is the most important Dharmapala or protector of Dharma, the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni and universal laws which expresses the same reality. 8.46 x 7.87 x 2 inches (21.5 x 20 x 5 cm), 863 grams.
